Ayr Burns Club Members Planned and erected this Burns Statue in Ayr.

Which was handed over to the” High Heed Yins”of Ayr to safe guard it for the public

We have a full Statue Minute Book with details of all decisions taken.

Later these facts will be published here.

Identical Lawson Statue of Robert Burns in Winnipeg , Canada visited in August 2007 by Robert Burns World President John Haining and Ayr Burns Club President Margaret Morrall to celebrate the Winnipeg Burns Clubs 100 years.

Ayr Burns Club was founded in 1801  

Key founder members and Office Bearers were distinguished citizens of Scotland.

Ayr Provost and Baillies were most active as Presidents and Council Members.

Ayr Burns Club erected the Statue of Robert Burns in Burns Statue Square, Ayr and invited Ayr Burgh to accept custodial care of it, on behalf of the citizens of Ayr. 


Where would Ayr and Ayrshire be if Robert Burns had been born somewhere else???

    This event will fulfill the wishes of Ayr and District Citizens,

    to Celebrate Our National Bard Robert Burns, with a 250th Birthday Dinner.

Sunday 19th July 2009 “A Tribute for The Life Of Robert Burns”

    Annual Tribute Commemorating Robert Burns near his death date 21st July 1796

A warm welcome is extended to all who wish to join us and share with us these events.

10 am Morning Service The Auld Kirk in Ayr : Join Us

            William Burness and Family worshipped here in The Parish of Ayr from around 1752

            while living in Alloway and at Mount Oliphant Farm until moving later to Lochlea Farm

            in the Parish of Tarbolton.

            William Burness father of Robert Burns was an Elder here.

            He was also their Elder to The Presbytery of Ayr.   

            Robert Burns was a Communicant Member here.

            Ayr Burns Club President Margaret Morrall participates in this service,

            honouring William Burness and Robert Burns.

2.30 pm Annual Commemorative Service Wreath Laying Burns Statue,

  1. Burns Statue Square, Ayr

  2. Ayr Burns Club members planned and erected the Statue of Burns in Ayr

             Any organisation or individual interested to lay a wreath please alert us

           

3.30pm Annual Commemorative Open Air Service, Wallace and Burns Cairn,

  1. Leglen Wood, River Ayr, Oswald Bridge, Auchincruive, River Ayr  70 attended 2008

  2. For road safety, drivers please use car park in front of Oswald Hall and walk back over the bridge to the cairn. Time will be allowed for this.

              f raining the service will be in St Quivox Church, Auchincruive.

Historical Information  WALLACE and BURNS CAIRN:

Burns went to Leglen Wood where his hero William Wallace had been, exploring nocks and crannies.  There he acknowledge the inspiration gained for Scot’s Wae Hae”


Hannah of Girvan Mains, Ayr Burns Club member, gifted the land of Leglen Wood to Ayr Burns Club, as the site for this cairn.

Ayr Burns Club President Rev Higgins financed the project.


Homecoming Scotland 2009

On 19th July 2009 this is therefore a very important day for us



The Dedication Ceremony for Wallace and Burns Cairn, Leglen Wood, Auchincruive was on the

14th September 1929, Ayr Burns Club President handed over this memorial cairn to the President of The Burns Federation, for safe custody, for the public.

DIRECTIONS TO WALLACE BURNS CAIRN, LEGLEN WOOD,

OSWALD BRIDGE, RIVER AYR, AYR


GLASGOW /KILMARNOCK A77, following signs for AYR, until you reach the Whitlets roundabout,  take exit for B743, signposted Mauchline and Auchincruive.

From the roundabout entering the B743, you pass the Hannah Research facility on your left. Traveling about a kilometre, take the first signpost for SAC Auchincruive and the Leglen Wood directing you to the minor road on the right.

Take this right turn into the main entrance. Continue on this road, passing Main Buildings on your left and drive along straight road until see Oswald Bridge, River Ayr. Wallace Burns Cairn is over this bridge to the right and you can see it from here.

Don’t cross the bridge, safe parking for your car is to the left road immediately before the bridge signposted Oswald Hall and car parking is up on left.

Please park in this car park and walk back and go over the bridge and up the steps on the right to the cairn.
